Dr. Sezgin BAKIRDERE was born on June 1, 1980, in Elazığ. After graduating from Fırat University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Chemistry in 2001, ranking first in his department/faculty and second in the university, he completed his Master’s degree in the Division of Analytical Chemistry in 2003. Having successfully completed his Doctoral education at Middle East Technical University in 2009, Dr. Bakırdere conducted a portion of his doctoral studies at the National Research Council of Canada. Receiving the title of Associate Professor in 2012 and Professor in 2017, Dr. Bakırdere has served as a coordinator, researcher, and consultant in a total of 50 scientific research projects supported by various institutions, including one TÜSEB and 30 TÜBİTAK projects. He has 378 articles published in prestigious international journals, 2 books published by reputable international publishing houses, 255 papers presented at national/international symposia, and a national patent belonging to the year 2022. Dr. Bakırdere’s current H-index is 33 (Scopus), and his scientific publications have received a high number of citations. Through his work, he has won the 2019 METU Prof. Dr. Mustafa N. PARLAR Education and Research Foundation Research Incentive Award, and a total of 16 awards, including first and second places across Turkey and regional levels, as an academic advisor in 6 TÜBİTAK 2242 University Students Research Project Competitions. Due to his success in the associate membership of the Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA), to which he was elected in 2015, Dr. Bakırdere was nominated and elected as a Principal Member of TÜBA in 2024. Furthermore, he was elected to the Global Young Academy, which has 200 members worldwide, in 2018 and still continues these duties. Continuing his academic life at Yıldız Technical University, Department of Chemistry, Dr. Bakırdere was elected as a “Fellow” member of the British Royal Society of Chemistry in 2022 and continues his roles as a Board Member and General Secretary of the Turkish Chemical Society.
